Why people pay for email like icontact.com instead of hosting their own?

There a many software that you can install yourself and not have to pay monthly.
So why people would choose to make a monthly payment instead of just buying a software once and have the same features to send marketing mails?
What are the major difference?
i know there are marketing email companies like:iContact Constant Contact Benchmark Bronto Campaigner Vertical Response MailChimp Stream Send etc..
but there are also great softwares out there that does the same thing.
What i want to know is why people would just waste their money on a monthly service instead of just buying a software once and have the same service.
any input will be great.
thanks

Hi,
Few things:
-Those services that you mentioned provide more details about an email marketing campaign (like tracking who opened, who clicked, etc.) than a software installed on a server is usually capble of (the software is not inherently incapable, but those services are more feature rich, usually).
-When you use your own software on your own server to send out emails to a large number of people, your IP address tends to be black-listed over time throughout the Internet by servers, assuming that this is where spam is coming from. By using those services, you don’t have fear of getting black-listed, coz it’s their IP addresses. Furthermore, as a business, they are actively making sure that they remain white-listed, sth you can not afford to do, time-wise, as an individual.
Hope that helps.
